Spotlight On: Hamac UV Protective Swimwear
My daughter Noomi loves to be in the sun splashing around in the water. We usually have to drag her kicking and screaming into the shade or indoors for nap time. I also have to be really responsible about slathering on sunblock and limiting her fun in the sun because these are things her Papi doesn’t really think about.
Last summer, we had the perfect pink camo UV-protective Baby Gap swimsuit with a hoodie. It was super cute and everything I didn’t know I needed. Of course she has outgrown it and I was dreading the hunt for a new suit this summer. Luckily I stumbled upon the brand Hamac at Playtime Paris, the children’s and maternity trade show this past January.
Hamac is a French cloth diaper/nappy and baby swimwear company that was started in 2007 by Florence Hallouin, a former engineer and industrial designer. The brand has received many awards and acknowledgements for their eco-friendly innovative design. The leakproof swim nappy comes with absorbent pads that slip in and out of the crotch so you don’t have to haul wasteful swim diapers around, something I was very grateful for on our last trip. The long sleeve top is Anti-UV UPF 50 +, resistant to chlorine and salt, and helps maintain body temperature by not getting cold and damp when your tot gets out of the water. However, you need to remove the pad insert as soon as they get out of the water. We just wrung the water out and laid everything out to dry in the sun.
Hamac sent me their newest style in the Anti-UV T-shirt (I would call this a rash guard but they call it a T-shirt) and swim nappy. We decided Noomi’s first trip to the ocean at Molliets in Les Landes was the perfect place to test out her new swim gear. She was rather timid about the lake last summer but went absolutely wild at the beach and we couldn’t help taking a few too many pictures to share.
As well as swimwear Hamac makes cloth nappies and training pants. Be sure to visit their website for more information. http://www.hamac-paris.co.uk
