First Look: Ki ET LA Spring/Summer 2016
Noomi and I went to a fun afternoon party last Wednesday at Le Petit Cafe du Monde Entier to see the Spring/Summer 2016 collection of Ki et LA. The event was billed as a “baby shower”, but as an American, and we Americans are known for turning every occasion possible into a commercial fête, I have to back up and say this was more like a party. The baby shower concept is not that big here in Paris. A baby shower is about showering a mother-to-be with gifts, and at our Ki et LA event they did however shower the kids with lots of fun stuff to do. (And we did leave with a gift so maybe I should stop analysing the baby shower thing.) There was a station to decorate a tote bag, coloring and crafts, “fishing”, face painting, a photo booth with props, toys partout, and every child’s favorite—the candy and sweets bar.
We had a nice time and learned heaps about Ki et LA, a fairly new accessories brand for kids launched by three friends in Nantes. Their main focus is to make products for kids that are timeless, innovative, and eco-responsible. I have talked before about my obsession with sun-protective gear for kids, gear that is not as easy to find as I assumed. Ki et LA’s collection of hats come in various colors and sizes from 6 months to 6 years, and are 100% cotton, anti-UV, UPF 50+, and reversible. The sunglasses, which hook onto the hats, are indestructible (major points for this), BPA free, anti-UV, and ergonomic for children ages 0 to 6 years. The ergonomic fit is most interesting for babies and toddlers. One single pair can be worn upright to fit a 0-9 month nose bridge or flipped for 9-18 months when a child’s nose bridge grows.
So now I’ve found a French brand that takes protection against the sun as seriously as I do, and knows kids need reversible and indestructible stuff sometimes—all the time.
