Booze Free Booze (aka Alcohol free wine)
Can you believe this is the aftermath of inviting three pregnant women over for a wine tasting apero chez moi recently? What started off as a civilized affair turned into a full-on girl’s night in. Nobody left before midnight! We laughed, we cried, and we woke up sober! (Okay nobody cried except my daughter when we kicked her out of the party off to bed.)
When you’re pregnant, you have to give up a few things like raw eggs, charcuterie, raw vegetables in public (for fear of toxoplasmosis), coffee, and medium-rare steaks. But the hardest for some (that’s moi) is alcohol. There is nothing like a glass of wine to chill in the evenings. Especially when your back hurts, your feet are swelling, and your skin is stretching.
The family founders of Domaine Pierre Chavin developed their Pierre Zero collection during a period of consecutive births and breastfeeding. (I can imagine it’s no fun running a cellar when you can’t drink a glass.) Their collection of alcohol-free wine uses a process of dealcoholization that aims to preserve the aromas and antioxidants in wine.
I ordered the Pack Degustation (Tasting Package) containing a bottle of rosé, sparkling white, sparkling rosé, red, and a grand reserve red. And just because I love bubbly I added an additional sparkling white.
The verdict: well, we had to admit that this did not “hit the spot”. But that said, we wouldn’t mind drinking the sparkling white and rosé at a party as a consolation for missing out on the good stuff. Most of the wines tasted a bit too sweet but nothing a little sparkling water couldn’t tone down. And anyway, as the picture shows we clearly enjoyed ourselves. If you would like to try Pierre Zero, visit their website and order a few bottles delivered to your door.
